The HANNspree Honda Althea team has made their decision concerning the 2009 World Supersport Championship season. The team has signed Aussie Mark Aitchison and Frenchman Matthieu Lagrive for the 2009 World Supersport Championship.

Since last Sunday, after finishing the 2008 Supersport World Championship in Portimao in 3rd place, Team Stiggy has already expanded into a four rider team contesting both the WSBK and WSS class. The new riders hit the Portimao track for half a day on Tuesday and all Wednesday and completed their first test for the 2009 season with the team.

The HANNspree Ten Kate Honda team had cause for celebration at the final round of the HANNspree Superbike World Championship at the stunning Portimao circuit in Portugal today. Carlos Checa’s podium and top seven finish in the day’s two races enabled him to collect enough points to secure fourth position in the standings overall for the team.

Carlos Checa took an impressive second place in today’s opening World Superbike race at Portimao in Portugal, while his new team-mate, Jonathan Rea, finished in fourth place in his World Superbike debut. Both races were won by Ducati’s Troy Bayliss, who will now retire from racing.

Kenan Sofuoglu won today’s final 2008 World Supersport championship race at Portimao in Portugal, completing a remarkable season for the HANNspree Ten Kate team and Honda’s CBR600RR. Sofuoglu’s team-mate and recently crowned champion, Andrew Pitt, was second.

Jonathan Rea underlined his potential as a 2009 WSBK front runner by taking a front row grid position in his debut on the HANNspree Ten Kate Honda CBR1000RR in Portugal today.

Jonathan Rea made his HANNspree Ten Kate Honda World Superbike debut at the all-new Autodromo Internacional do Algarve at Portimao in Portugal this afternoon. The 21-year-old immediately impressed the paddock by setting the seventh fastest time in this afternoon’s wet opening qualifying session for Sunday’s two final races of the 2008 season.
